Abbatt’s Toys

We thought we’d share a little historical insight into one of the inspirations behind our brand, Abbatt’s Toys…

Opened in 1936, Paul & Marjorie Abbatt Ltd on Wimpole Street in Marylebone housed a trove of impeccably designed educational children’s toys, curated by the pioneering Abbatt couple. The shop was designed by their prolific architect friend Ernö Goldfinger. We find great inspiration in the progressive work of the Abbatts and Goldfinger, who instigated a groundbreaking new focus on helping children learn through play. Similarly, our products are very child-led and are designed to support children’s education and exploratory play from an early age. We are also based in Marylebone and hope our products will be cherished for many, many years to come!

“[Play is] a force which can be used for development and valuable experience, a force which, if it is not thwarted by the wrong choice of playthings, develops into the power behind the successful architect or engineer.”
– Paul Abbatt, Design for Today, 1933
